Each of these women are pushing boundaries and changing the definition of ‘work:’ whether it’s the meaning and ‘what’ of work, who works, why work, or how to work. The space of work itself is disrupted.

Jodi Kovitz stresses the need for full diversity and inclusivity — gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and so on. Why? Because with the rapid advances and immense impact of technology ALL need to be considered and included so that the future isn’t biased.

Eveline Buchatskiy highlights the talent of immigrant founders and entrepreneurs. She notes that 24% of startups are founded by immigrants and 51% of unicorns have immigrant founders. Why? Because the immigration journey is very much like an entrepreneurial journey. The attributes that drive someone to leave their country are grit, determination, perseverance, etc… These are the same traits of a successful entrepreneur.

Lori Casselman discusses the changing nature of the work environment. The gig economy is shifting the idea of a designated workspace, employees are increasingly looking to choose where they work, and technology is becoming rampant; corporations need to adjust or else they will disappear. It’s time we work to improve benefits and care for employees as they need. It’s on the leaders to identify sources of strain and stress, and find a solution to those problems.

Sarah Stovold shares the future of work for the coming generation. The millennial generation is huge and they were born with a smartphone in hand. Generation X has unprecedented access and concerns about privacy, but they also demand a new level of personalization, understand the power of the Internet, and insist on diversity. What does this mean? To attract and retain young talent leaders need to align on values (for example: flexibility, appreciation, and inclusivity), inspire, and complement inherent skill sets of the youth.
