A Little Late With Lilly Singh celebrates one month on the air

One of the highest-paid YouTubers of all time. №1 New York Times bestselling author. The voice of Bubbles and Misty in the animated film Ice Age: Collision Course. Recipient of two Teen Choice Awards and a People’s Choice Award. Alter ego IISuperwomanII. Lilly Singh’s versatility and incredible ability to conquer so many avenues is enough to make anyone marvel at her talents. But the late night game is another animal altogether, and some fine tuning may still be required for her show to reach its full potential.

Her recurring “gift baskets” segment regurgitates events exactly as media outlets portray them while her “wage gap workout” sketch similarly paints all men as despicable miscreants who have nothing better to do than commit lurid, heinous, unspeakable crimes against womankind. Neither attitude is conducive to constructive conversations that acknowledge nuance and variability as inherent in everyday life situations.

Instead of coming across as amusing, however, her redundancy runs the risk of alienating the very groups she’s trying to educate.

I’m not particularly gifted in the comedic arts, so maybe I’m simply a philistine for saying that I sometimes find Lilly’s humor a little too polarizing. Her…
