Background story first

I met Vesku a couple of months ago, and during one for our random conversations he asked me (as usually — quite abstract question) “Anna, if you could change something in the world — what would it be?” After short reflection moment of silence, I said you know what, I wish that every person in the world could REALISE what he or she really loves to do and has resources to TRY and DO it.

Exactly at this moment, the concept of Self — Hack event was born. It took place two months after, confirming our belief that we want and can help others to find the right way, follow it and be happy.

Let’s start from the feedback, we’ve received

The most productive weekend of my life — said one participant.

Others seemed to be the same satisfied:

Self-Hack gave participants great tools to plan and conquer their present and future. I think we all got from the event also a good sense of community and support.

Josefina Pönkkä, Marketing Assistant

I’ve spent 3 great days with Self-Hack guys! Cleared my goals, focused on right things, learned how to find balance. Started ACTION! Days became a lot more productive ;) I’m waiting for our next meeting!

Niia Kviatkovskaia, CEO and Co-founder at Numerum Oy

I’ve learnt to be brutally honest with myself and not let societal norms and expectations dictate my life decisions. Before I could tackle other issues, achieving self-awareness was the first step to help me be clear about who I really am in order to better decide what is best for me and have better control over my life.

So what is Self-Hack actually about?

In three words: insight, inspiration, integration

Insight and self-discovery — diving into your present situation, wants and wishes. Also, short look back and reflection about the past and its influence on the current state. Individual exercises based on design approach.

Inspiration from others — their life stories, lessons, thoughts and ideas. Sharing of perspectives between individuals from different domains, generations and cultural backgrounds. Social interaction is the best way for reflection and getting to know ourselves better!

Integration of all this into one action plan for the future. Personal roadmap which includes all possible options for your close future, expected results and paths of achieving them. The first step from the roadmap had to be made already during the event!

How did we do it?

  • We based the process of Design Thinking approach (emphasize, define, ideate, prototype, test) and propose Design Thinking as the way to reflect on and develop your life story. We gave tools and exercises.
  • We gave participant complete freedom to share ideas and discuss, following the belief that we learn best from others and that we see ourselves better in the eyes of other people.

As a result, participants…

  • Managed to discover their obectives, set goals and combine all flying puzzles of their lives in one form — ready to execute
  • Became more confident and satisfied about who they are and what they want to achieve
  • Got to know new, inspiring people and decided to continue this friendship via Facebook community group and support each other in realizing our goals.
  • Received quite a great bunch of positive energy and motivation to realize their goals
