Hello! We are Tribes — the web3-native messaging app helping the next generation of crypto consumers, creators, communities, and DAOs collaborate and build relationships.

Our company’s logo ⵣ is pronounced Aza, which means “the free people” in the Berber language.

Web3, crypto, and blockchains have dominated the tech zeitgeist recently. Still, all the innovation in the space has focused on building infrastructure or decentralized financial services such as lending, borrowing, and trading. With those rails in place, we believe we’ll see many Web3-powered consumer products come to market over the next year.

So we’re building Tribes to provide everyday people with a consumer-grade, web3 native messaging app for the conversations they care about in crypto. Blockchains are essentially networks — and Tribes is focusing on making them much more consumer-friendly and useful through wallet messaging, token-gated conversations, and legible Web3 identities.

We will have plenty of updates to share over the coming months and beyond as we roll out new features, but today we want to share some basic info about what Tribes is, how it works, and our vision for the company in the years ahead.

Why “Tribes?”

The vision for Tribes is to help folks collaborate with like-minded people in the crypto community that share a common goal or interest. I picked the name Tribes as an homage to the indigenous Berber people of North Africa and my Algerian heritage. Our company’s logo ⵣ is pronounced Aza, which means “the free people” in the Berber language.

What do I use Tribes for?

Tribes sits at the intersection of the social + crypto spaces. We aim to make essential web3 user experiences simple and intuitive so that people can communicate directly, join groups around shared tokens, and more.

The goal is to create a shared, Web3 experience that helps you communicate and collaborate on the Web3 networks you’re already participating in. And, because it’s crypto-native, Tribes identities are directly linked to the blockchain, so there aren’t the verification issues or scammy-ness that you might find on other messaging platforms.

Today, users can connect their Ethereum or Solana wallets to get started. We’re also excited to collaborate and integrate with the many other protocols and blockchains explored within the industry in the coming months.

What about decentralization?

Today, large companies effectively control public discourse and profit from their creator’s content. We want to flip that model. Tribes is starting as a centralized platform but will progressively decentralize over time and hand control over to our community.

How do I get started?

We’ll be going live in app stores for iOS and Android very soon. Interested in early access to Tribes? Visit tribes.xyz and connect your wallet on Ethereum or Solana.

Stay tuned!
