Great news — our mobile app is live! Get it in the App Store or Google Play.

Now, anyone can use their web3 identity to access a consumer-grade, crypto-native mobile messaging app for 1:1 convos, group chats, and token-gated timelines.

Here is what you can expect to see in the app

The experience is designed to feel familiar, like your other chat apps, with a focus on fast, lightweight interaction and notifications.

Familiar chat list and notifications

There are wallet profile screens, so you can see and verify who you are talking to. You can find other people via their ENS, Unstoppable Domains, Lens Protocol, Bonfida, or Tribes username. And in chats, you can view the entire transaction history between the recipient and your wallet.

Read on for more.

Sign in with your favorite web3 identity

You can use any web3 identity to sign into Tribes, including:

  • .eth (ENS)
  • .sol (Bonfida)
  • Lens protocol
  • Unstoppable Domains
  • or you can create a Tribes name

Today you’ll use your unique 12-word phrase to sign in. We secure the phrase by encrypting and storing it using iOS Keychain and Android KeyStore. The secret phrase never leaves the device, and access to the secret phrase is protected by biometrics verification. This is the approach that’s already adopted by the most popular mobile crypto wallets today.

And yes, we’re planning to add more sign-in options in the future — more on that soon.

See your transactions right in your conversations

When you first open Tribes, you’ll see that many of your contacts and communities are already right there in your chat list. How? Tribes uses your on-chain activity and holdings to make suggestions, so people you’ve transacted with and communities you hold NFTs or Coins in are prioritized. Of course, you’re in control; you may hide these conversations and create new ones, anytime.

Transactions appear in chats

In each chat view, you’ll see your transactions co-mingled chronologically with your messages. We believe that conversation can add much-needed context and clarity to transactions, so we’ve combined them.

Web3’s on-chain transaction history is an edge on the social graph, and we’ll continue to make it legible and useful, while keeping you totally in control of your experience.

For groups of all sizes

Tribes supports two different kinds of groups, designed to host everything from small chats to large forums.

Private groupchat for small groups; Token timelines for big ones

Token timelines

Token-gated groups allow people to post and host conversations where only verified coin- or NFT-holders can participate. You need to be a token holder to participate in the discussion, and the thread is visible to the public. You do not need to hold the token to simply read the discussion. This type of group is optimized for bigger groups and organized as a timeline featuring posts, reactions, comments, and threads.

Private group chat

User-created “membership” groups are private: only members can see or message within the group. This type of group is optimized for smaller groups and organized as a group DM chat.

Send feedback

This is an exciting milestone, but rest assured, it is just the beginning. We’re excited to iterate, refine, and expand the experience based on feedback from our community. (You’ll see a direct feedback channel in your chat list.)
