Today we received delivery of the Ledger Nano S devices that will be given away to 50 contributors of our token pre-token event this Saturday.

Whether you contribute 0.0001 BTC or 300 ETH in our pre-token event, you will be entered into a draw, that will be hosted live after the event ends, where winners will be selected randomly to receive one of these fantastic devices.

The event takes place this Saturday 14th October at 12:30pm UTC and you can take part at https://triforcetokens.io.

Just how cool are these devices?

Once we actually had these in our hands, the team was very keen to crack one open and have a play. We just had to Unbox one.

Here’s what we found…

The package is fairly small, about the size of an open hand, with the device itself resembling a USB stick, sitting comfortably inside.

After removing the device, underneath you get a collection of parts: a USB cable, lanyard, various key ring attachments and some clear instructions.

The little quick start card states simply, ‘Get Started At start.ledgerwallet.com and follow the instructions to configure your device’.

On the getting started website you choose the device and follow the next steps.

We plug the device in, start following the steps on the display, and reach a point where we can chose to create a new wallet or even import an existing Bitcoin/Ethereum account. We decided to create a new wallet.

All pretty simple so far.

Going through the setup instructions.

The longest part of the process was actually going through and taking down all 24 of the recovery phrases as a back up. A slight pain, but necessary.

Once we got past that phase, we then went to the app store on the website, to install a Bitcoin wallet chrome app. In order to access the wallet we first had to select the Bitcoin app on the device itself. Once opened, the chrome app connected and took us into a fairly typical wallet interface, with the ability to send and receive.

By this point we are feeling really comfortable using the device. We thought it would be quite restrictive by only having two buttons to interact with it, but actually it’s perfect for usability.

Now time to send some actual BTC to it…

I logged into my Bittex account to withdraw the remaining BTC I had left in there. Plugged in the wallet address, hit send and waited. A few minutes later it turns up as expected.

One feeling we did have through this experience, is that it feels so much safer knowing that our wallets are not dependant on the reliability of another company or service, and is securely held offline. It’s also really handy that you can carry it around.

There were some negatives, such as having to connect it to a laptop and needing to install browser apps. But the benefits really outweigh these minor annoyances.

All these devices are being given away to 50 random contributors in our pre-token event this Saturday

Our pre-token event opens to anyone on 14th October at around 12:30pm (UTC) and will stay open for 48 hours. Participants will also get a 60% bonus on tokens.
