As technology continues to develop at a blindingly fast pace, important industries and business fields have been massively disrupted, fundamentally changing the way they operate. More and more companies require coders, data scientists, and cybersecurity experts for everyday functions; this is one of the main reasons Trilogy Education began partnering with leading universities and powering intensive boot camp programs.

The finance industry is not immune to changes in technology, which is why the rise of financial technology, or fintech, is something that cannot be ignored.

Why Trilogy Is Addressing Fintech

Fintech innovations in blockchain, banking, robo advising, and more are leading to an intense need for talent in this area. The number of job listings for fintech has increased dramatically, growing from 1.9 million in 2014 to over 2.9 million fintech jobs posted in 2018. And in the first half of 2018, $57.9 billion was invested in fintech, a massive increase compared to the total of $38.1 billion in 2017.

Fintech is the wave of the future, so as the vast majority of financial businesses attempt to adapt to new technologies, we at Trilogy are eager to help students and working adults adapt alongside them. Participants in our coding and cybersecurity programs have already gone on to work in the financial industry, and we hope that our focused commitment to nurturing fintech talent will allow even more students and working adults to find fulfilling careers through the development of essential tech skills.

How Trilogy Approaches Fintech

As with all Trilogy-powered boot camps, fintech students will obtain marketable skills that they will apply on a daily basis as a fintech professional. For instance, Python is the top programming language in the fintech sector, so learners will gain an understanding of how to use Python in financial applications, such as creating predictive models for stock prices. Our cutting-edge curriculum covers a range of topics, starting with financial fundamentals and moving into programming, machine learning, and blockchain and cryptocurrency — all necessary for the current fintech landscape.

While taking in these topics, learners will build a portfolio by applying their knowledge and using technology tools for financial applications. This includes projects such as building neural networks to predict financial outcomes or developing an AI robo-advisor that is able to provide competent financial service to individual investors. Students can even learn how to design smart contracts and create their own cryptocurrencies. These projects serve a dual function: 1) giving learners valuable experience in working with the tools and concepts that fintech professionals use on a daily basis and 2) allowing them to show employers that they are fully ready to take the reins in a fintech role.

In the classroom, students balance discussion, hands-on work, and group projects to gain knowledge, and they will have access to insights and instruction from seasoned industry professionals. To help learners find success after their programs, Trilogy provides a system of support through career services, which includes assistance with resume building and interviews, and provides networking and recruiting opportunities through webinars and employer events.

Trilogy-powered fintech boot camps are yet another avenue for working adults to make meaningful pivots into relevant and long-lasting tech careers. Fintech programs are already available at leading universities such as UNC Charlotte, Columbia University, Rice University, and Vanderbilt University — with more on the way.
