Why you should apply for the “Startups for News” competition
It’s that time of the year again: the applications for the Startups for News competition are now open! Startups for News is an international competition that recognises early-stage startups that are bringing innovative solutions to newsroom challenges.
Last year at this time the team here at Trint was submitting our own application and could only dream about the amazing experience that we later had at the Global Editors Network Summit in Vienna (including winning the Startup for News 2016 Award 😉)
Now we are looking forward to the next summit, which we are attending as part of the GEN family, preparing to have our own booth (one of the many perks we got as last year’s winner) and ready to immerse ourselves into the atmosphere of collaboration and partnership that this event creates.
These are the reasons the organizers give as to why you should apply:
- Exposure to the industry
- Network, network, network
- Gain media exposure
We completely agree with each of these points but we’d also like to add that being among like-minded people and seeing all the amazing ideas entrepreneurs come up with in order to tackle newsroom challenges is invaluable.
We left Vienna last year energized and motivated, having made great friends and established long-lasting partnerships. All this been invaluable to us, providing so many great opportunities and access to GEN resources, which we absolutely love.
In short, participating in the Startups for News competition was one of the best and most exciting experiences we have had here at Trint and we would advise every startup that deals with innovative solutions for newsrooms to give it a try!
