For many, the idea of travelling to India seems to be a terrifying prospect and a country worth avoiding. For some reason we have it drilled into us that India is dirty, smelly and far too chaotic to enjoy. But, from experience, I can say you couldn’t be more wrong! A beautiful country full to the brim of colour, culture and adventure, India is a magnificent place to explore. With adventure around every corner (and temple), Indian life is worlds apart from any other country and you are sure to fall head over heels for it.

If you are toying with the idea of exploring beautiful India, these 5 reasons are certain to make you fall in love.

1. Beautiful people and beautiful smiles

India is without a doubt home to some of the friendliest people on the planet. From experience, I can say that a wave and a smile to a local goes along way and their hospitality is something to admire!

Indian’s love us Westerner’s and many of the children haven’t even seen a white person before — it’s quite touching how many of them want to come and say hello and have their photo taken (be careful of the cheeky ones who will ask you for money).

However it has to be said that the constant staring and pointing may feel a little overwhelming, but within a few days you won’t even notice it. For travellers going it alone, India could seem a risky choice, but trust me when I say — the welcome you receive makes you feel very at home.

2. Culture, culture and more culture

A country full of culture, religion and beautiful traditions, India has a surprise (usually pleasant) around every corner. Whether you are walking along the Ghats and stumble across a meditating pilgrim or enjoying a stroll through Udaipur amongst stunning elephants, no day will go past without you being truly amazed by the country’s rituals and traditions.

Like many countries, religion plays a huge part in everyday lives — but in India, religion is the key to a happy life. The vast amount of daily rituals and dedication to their religion is beautiful and incredibly eye opening. If you only go to India for one reason, make sure it is to experience a Holi festival.

3. Indian architecture

Although there is beautiful architecture across the entire globe, nobody has architecture quite like India. So intricate and detailed, Indian architecture is the perfect example of stunning artwork and design.

Spread across the country are outstanding buildings, temples and palaces — for those of you infatuated by Indian architecture, I would strongly suggest you visit the Taj Mahal and the Amber Fort Palace, you will be blown away!

4. Food fit for a king

India is renowned for its food and it’s not hard to taste why! With endless curries, fried goodies and local delicacies, India has something for every foodie. Local food is a fantastic way to experience daily life and, without a doubt, you will find something delicious on every street corner — personally, I would recommend trying a samosa!

For those who prefer a more civilised sit-down meal, Indian hotels are a great way to experience a more sophisticated way of trying Indian food, (although it is much more expensive).

5. Forget the map and enjoy the adventure

Not only is India the perfect country to really open your eyes and broaden your perspectives, it is the perfect way to throw away the map and enjoy an adventure of a lifetime (p.s. don’t literally through your map away). From experience, I would recommend hiring a moped. Although some serious safety precautions need to be considered, it is the perfect way to enjoy India, see the sights and go at your own pace. Adventure is one of the main reasons we travel and India is the perfect country to do this!

Book your flight and go to India

If you’re a traveller who really enjoys spontaneity, and going back to basics, India is 100% the perfect country for you. Although chaotic, loud and at times overwhelming, India has so many positives that are sure to make you love it!

It is so incredibly beautiful and bursting with life, that if you don’t visit India during your lifetime you will most certainly have missed out. So, what are you waiting for?
