Ever Heard of the Peace Pentagon?

With so much focus against yet another possible war in Syria, I say, our concerns would be better used in favor of something — like peace. Let us make peace the #1 priority on the planet. Let us join the 100%.

The U.S. Pentagon is anti, anti other countries in favor of our own. We can say, we need to have security, we need to protect ourselves against attack… Well, what if no people or no countries had to worry about a threat from another group of people on Earth? We could end war in this part of the galaxy, focus on the development and well being of our people — our children — instead of having to watch over our shoulder all the time. And, we could be leaders of peace as we venture further into space., without feeling like hypocrites who espouse peace, yet can’t get along.

What is the story you tell yourself about why you’re here now on Earth? What are and will be your contributions? Dream big — without fear.

The Peace Pentagon is not just about talking — though dialogue is surely part of peace. It is about taking action, about envisioning a future of humanity on Earth that is aligned with who we truly are and who we are becoming as a species — and taking daily strides personally and in unison — to move in that direction. By collaborating, we move forward together.

Beyond Nationalism: The History and Future of the Peace Movement

This weekend, I get to be an observer of a weekend event at the Peace Pentagon that I’ve been looking forward to for months now. : ) The weekend Peace Conference is called: “Beyond Nationalism: The History and Future of the Peace Movement.” Of course, as a peace journalist, peace activist and social entrepreneur, this is the topic that turns me on. : ) Here is the link.

Their words are better than my own, of course, in explaining the Conference’s purpose:

This retreat will guide you through the fascinating history of the Peace Movement, from World War I to the present. We also will learn about the Earth Federation Movement — a logical solution to the problems of perpetual war and global warming. Participants will learn how they can contribute to these important peacebuilding efforts from two amazing activists who are leading the charge to abolish war and federate the Earth. Participants are guaranteed to be inspired by these masters of the Peace Movement and will leave with a sense of true empowerment and concrete goals for sacred activism.

In the coming days, I’ll be sharing with you the latest ideas and peace work of David Swanson and Dr. Glen T. Martin, PhD., the retreat’s speakers — as well as the work of the Oracle Institute and Peace Pentagon. Like myself, these are people who have ideas of what it can be like and invite you to imagine a peaceful future to and then take action in a way that’s perfect for you.

David Swanson

David Swanson is an author, activist, journalist, and radio host. He is the director of World Beyond War, a global nonviolent movement to end war and establish a just and sustainable peace. David is campaign coordinator for RootsAction.org. He is a 2015, 2016, 2017 Nobel Peace Prize Nominee.

David’s books on war and peace include War Is A Lie (a catalog of the types of falsehoods regularly told about wars), and War Is Never Just (a refutation of just war theory), and When the World Outlawed War (an account of the 1920s peace movement and the creation of the Kellogg Briand Pact).

David blogs at DavidSwanson.org and WarIsACrime.org. He hosts a weekly radio show called Talk Nation Radio. He speaks frequently on the topic of war and peace, and engages in all kinds of nonviolent activism. He recently drafted a resolution urging Congress to move money from the military to human and environmental needs, rather than the reverse. Versions of the resolution were passed by several cities and by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Glen T. Martin, PhD.

Glen T. Martin, Ph.D is an author, professor of Philosophy & Religion at Radford University, and President of the World Constitution & Parliament Association, an international group that promotes federation of the Earth. He also is President of the International Philosophers for Peace and Institute on World Problems. Glen has received multiple peace awards, including the Gusi Peace Prize.

Since long before receiving his Ph.D. in philosophy from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and his MA from Hunter College, he was a conscientious objector to war and active in movements for peace and the transformation of our brutal and violent world order. Much of his writing and scholarship has centered around the interconnections between the spiritual and social-political dimensions of achieving peace and human liberation.

During his over 30 years at Radford University, Dr. Martin has been active in both national and international work of philosophers focusing on issues of peace. He has regularly presented papers at national conferences of the Concerned Philosophers for Peace (CPP) and the international conferences of International Philosophers for Peace and the Prevention of Nuclear and Other threats to Global Existence (IPPNO). Since 1996, he has been President of International Philosophers for Peace (IPPNO), an organization with members in 25 countries that works to promote the social, political, and economic conditions necessary for world peace.

We all have different gifts that we are here to use in the path to peace. Find your gifts and use them! The planet needs every last one of us. Or else, we would not be here. You’ve been recruited by the galaxy — for peace. Your assignment should you dare to take it: Do all you can to re-claim a world of peace for the Earth, if not for yourself, then for all future generations.

Did you know? It takes just 8,721 out of 7.6 billion people practicing peace on Earth — rather than supporting continual war by default — to begin the change process. Read more here.

Let’s unify for peace. We can bring it about on Earth by collaborating, by working together.
