Introducing new data usage reports for your Mac!

In this update, we added something that was requested a lot: new reports! They now also cover your total data usage, regardless if TripMode was turned on or not. Users who mainly use the Live Monitoring mode will find this useful.

You can still view reports for filtered data only: which is particularly handy when you use TripMode to block data traffic and want to keep an eye on your limited connection data usage.

Reports are easily accessible right from the dropdown in the main TripMode screen.

This update also includes many minor under the hood enhancements.

The Mac App Store version of TripMode also includes a fix for restoring purchases. This is now more reliable.

Availability and update instructions

The update will be released very soon, during the week of April 12 2021.

  • If you downloaded TripMode from our website: in the next few days, simply go to the About screen and check for updates. If you have automatic updates turned on, you will receive a notification inviting you to update TripMode.
  • If you have Setapp, the update should be pushed to you automatically.
  • The Mac App Store version should be updated automatically, too. If you have automatic updates turned off, simply go to the Mac App Store and check the Updates section.

You will be presented with a TripMode window asking for your permission to update its filter, which is required for the update to complete. In rare cases, the update may appear to loop and won’t succeed (this appears to be related to a bug in macOS that we are investigating). Just reboot your Mac and retry if this happens.

Important note: Apple recently fixed a major bug that was present in macOS versions older than 11.2, where the traffic of many Apple apps was hidden from apps like TripMode. Make sure to update macOS to the latest version to have watertight data blocking from TripMode.
