The App Inspector screen of TripMode 3 now shows download and upload traffic indicators
Refreshed App Inspector, which now includes upload and download indicators

This new version of TripMode includes a lot of stability and usability improvements, adds AppleScript support, and includes a few bug fixes.

We introduced a key change in the setup and update process, that should make it smoother. When updating TripMode, it should now happen silently and no longer ask for your approval to update the network filter. We also cover more corner cases to ensure the setup happens smoothly.

The App Inspector now also includes upload and download indicators, making it easier to understand where your data is flowing. To check it out, simply click on the “>” button next to any app in the main TripMode screen.

AppleScript support has also been added. This allows you to set up custom automation scripts and link them with TripMode, a much requested feature from power users. To see which commands are available, open Apple’s Script Editor > File > Open Dictionary > TripMode.

TripMode 3.0.5 adds AppleScript support. Here are the available interactions.

Full release notes

• App Inspector UI enhancements, added upload/download arrow indicators

• Smooth silent updates, requiring no user intervention

• Stability improvements during setup

• Fixed a rare issue where reports didn’t always show accurate total data

• AppleScript support

• Many UI, stability and accessibility improvements: tooltips, help buttons, clearer onboarding, improved animations, …

How do I get the update?

  • If you downloaded TripMode from our website: you should get prompted to get the update shortly. To check manually, simply go to the About screen and check for updates.
  • If you have Setapp, the update should be pushed to you soon automatically.
  • The Mac App Store version should be updated automatically over the next few days, too. If you have automatic updates turned off, simply go to the Mac App Store and check the Updates section.

Important note: Make sure to update macOS to the latest version to ensure that TripMode filters all traffic. Apple fixed a major bug that was present in macOS versions older than 11.2, where the traffic of many Apple apps was hidden from apps like TripMode.
