Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo. The voyage across will take you about 30 minutes on foot. No bikes allowed, bummer dude.

Even though we have been to this city a shitload there’s still some trips we haven’t taken. Tokyo is insane in size and to try to see and do everything in a short number of days is near on impossible, especially if you want to immerse yourself in the culture and character of your experience.

If you’re on a shoestring or an intense timeline you’re going to miss out on some stuff. But if you ever find yourself outta money with a couple of hours, take a walk across the rainbow: the biggest bridge in Tokyo.

Rainbow Bridge connects Tokyo to the man-made island of Odaiba and is one of the lesser-known free things to do in Tokyo city. The 1.7 kilometre journey across the bridge will take 20–30 minutes on foot (no bikes allowed) and will reward you with a panoramic outlook of Tokyo and a view of Mt Fuji in the distance, while you watch ships sail beneath you. The lower deck walkway is open ‪from 9am to 9pm April through October and ‪10am to 6pm November through March (but closed every 3rd Monday of the month).

So, if you have already enjoyed the Dionysian nightlife of Tokyo and already taken a trip through it’s best districts, take it easy and go for a dawdle across one of the coolest bridges in the country. And hey, if you’re lucky and it’s a clear day, you might get a glimpse of the seaside park or Tokyo’s underwater road tunnel.
