Be a Digital Nomad and you will have more freedom

This article was written by Eleonora Bonaguro, as the Head of Experiences here at Tripsst!

The 21st century has brought along several changes in our lifestyle, transforming many of our routines, customs and even cultures with the digital era.

This new age plays a fundamental role nowadays, allowing us to explore unreachable areas, to improve and to even innovate in other spaces. Such is the case of the devices that operate with artificial intelligence (AI) protocols: smartphones, tablets, computers, and robots, all of them acting as facilitators of our work.

Currently there are many work areas, both professionally and labor-oriented, on which there is no necessity for the worker to be physically present, because technology allows him or her to fulfill their roles from almost anywhere in the world,

This is the smart way of working that allows you to travel and produce the needed income in order to live wherever and however you like, as a Digital Nomad.

What is a Digital Nomad?

It is that person who can work from anywhere in the world thanks to newer technologies such as the Internet. He or she can fulfill their occupation goals by selling his or her knowledge to business and/or people, or simply execute their professional tasks by their own as a freelancer. Modern technologies allow many people nowadays to work remotely or at a distance, giving them the advantage of traveling to any place they want to.

Characteristics of a Digital Nomad

  • It is a lifestyle, not a profession or obligation: it needs to be seen as a way of life that integrates many changes that occur in a workplace, as well as the decision of taking full control of your life in order to live it the way that suits you the most, all while enjoying it in a more satisfying way.
  • Freedom of movement: Also known as travelwork, by using the Internet you’ll be able to work wherever you can access to that service; therefore, your office or workplace can be anywhere, literally.
  • Different business models: Usually three modes can be identified: the freelancer, the entrepreneur and the outsource worker.

This new lifestyle shows us there is a custom way of producing and traveling, which gives us a bigger enjoyment of life itself. It’s especially true if you wish to travel, discover brand new places and work in something that gives you a better quality of life, with way less stress.

Changes in the work culture

No other change has, since the Industrial Revolution, been so profound as the one we are currently living with the new technologies, the use of Internet and the arrival of the so-called Digital or Information Age. This period has changed our way of communicating with others, the establishment of new relationships, the interpretation of the world and our ways of working.

We could say that the Digital Nomad phenomenon has changed the work culture, all while keeping a mutual feedback with it. In this sense, it has generated:

A different conception about work.

In presence-required jobs you’ll have surely heard complains and phrases such as “Warming the chair” or “I’m not motivated by my job”. All of them diminish the worker’s capacities and abilities. With the Internet, there comes a new conception of the workplace and its jobs as freer and more independent, putting the traditional model aside. In this way, the worker has the power to make decisions and can be much more involved in reaching the company’s goals. It’s all about working for results, not being a defined number of hours without production.

A work and life alternative.

You’ve surely wondered if your current life is the one that truly fulfills you. Are you satisfied with what you do for a living? Maybe the answer is “No, I don’t like what I do. I want and need a change”.

This change can be made by leaving behind those ideas we’ve been taught as the “correct way of thinking and living”, such as the need to study in an institution, to find a good job, to marry, to begin a family and to buy a place of your own and live there forever. This has forced many people to remain in a single place, only being able to travel, discover, experience, and enjoy during the very few holidays each year.

To be a Digital Nomad is an experience that breaks tradition and opens a lot of chances to achieve true financial freedom, as well as your right to travel and decide where, when and how you’ll work. You’re the owner of your time, all while having fun and being more responsible in an individual way, and more conscious in general about reality by knowing that you, and only you, are the only one to be held accountable.
