CRAZY ROAD TO JODHPUR
Jodhpur the Blue City,
another early morning rise as we set off on the bus to the next city Jodhpur , the drive was a total of 6 1/2 hours , madness you may think , but so eventful watching all the going on in the towns /villages as we passed through, vehicles passing either side of the road , nobody bothers about which side of the road they should be driving , cows (sacred) in with the traffic , in the roads, in your face , nobody gives a hoot !! and believe me non of the traffic runs into them, I think that’s a hanging offence.
We finally arrived at The Blue City, population one and a half million, small by all accounts , no tall buildings in this city, named The Blue City as every other house you see is painted blue, it is amazing how unique it looks .And once again the city is surrounded by a massive wall , (not unlike in shape to the Great Wall in China ) and protected by the biggest Fort in the world , and overshadowed by yes you guessed it another temple, did I say another temple!! This was called Ranakpur Temple and was worshipped by Jains
As with the other temple this one was quite different also , it was based on the Jain religion and was built in the 14 th century, had 1444 pillars thought, and not one of them is the same as the next, I will add a few photos next post .( still waiting for them to be developed ,sic)
Our stay overnight was quite uneventful, nice hotel, had our laundry done
At a third of the price in the previous hotels , 2 dollars a shirt , same for pants and 1.50 for Trisha’s dresses, at this price we emptied the suitcases into the laundry bags , and it all came back early in the morning ironed and folded just like mum use to do !!
We took off early (8am) for the next city Udaipur, they call it the Venice of the East due to three massive lakes dominating the city.
We finally arrived in the city of Udaipur about 8 pm and went to a city restaurant next to the City Palace walls that overlooked this massive lake , in the middle of the lake was our hotel for the next two night , and what was it called ?? THE LAKE PALACE HOTEL.
