Why should everything cater to “YOU”?

So recently I’ve been reading some rather upsetting comments about Hyper Light Drifter. These comments have been complaining about how the game is just… too hard. One journalist even calls for “skippable boss fights” and unfortunately he is not the only one. Seriously, this kind of comments leave me with my jaw dropped. Why does every single things needs to cater to YOU? Why does everything need to be done the way YOU want?
Every game has a target audience and sometimes you are not part of it. The only reasonable thing to do here is deal with it. Just move along and play something else; Or put the time and effort and invest into the game to learn how it works and just play it. Stop asking developers to cater specifically to you.
The entertainment business is very large and we are quite lucky to have a great industry where everyone gets what they want. Sports fans get their games and shooter fans get their games and even challenge loving fans get their games. So why do you have the need to steal games from other target audiences. There is no sense in complaining over the internet about the artistic vision of a game, if you don’t like it don’t buy it.
Look, I get it, Hyper Light Drifter is gorgeous and has an amazing soundtrack, but its made with nostalgia for old games in mind and it is filling a rare niche. Instead of complaining that the game doesn’t cater to you, you should applaud it. The developer is trying something that not many are willing to do. In the same sense as the Souls series have their niche, so does Hyper Light Drifter. If you are not part of it, there are only 2 sensible options: Learn or Drop.
Hyper Light Drifter caters to a niche that some people, like myself, are part of. We too like to be catered to, so don’t go trying to steal this away from us. There’s a game out there for everyone, somewhere someone is already thinking of another Walking Simulator just for you, so please wait for it.
