WandaVision Series 2 is gripping

This time, set in the UK, as another psychedelic mini series blows our minds (and our economy)

As we all know, WandaVision series 1 was about an odd couple moving into a new home in a bucolic suburban town that seemed pleasant enough, but apparently stuck in a pre-colour TV era of social mores. As time passes, the uncanniness and glitches in the setup is revealed to be a leaking through of a wider reality of plot devices outside the happy bubble of the protagonist couple.

In a complete turnabout for series 2, Wandavision appears to be about an odd couple moving into new homes in a bucolic urban setting that seems pleasant enough, but apparently stuck in a Thatcherite era of social mores. As time passes, the uncanniness and glitches in the setup is revealed to be a leaking through of a wider reality of plot devices outside the happy bubble of the protagonist couple…

So, completely different in Series 2

Episodes

Here are the episodes so far: it’s it’s been a wild ride until now.

1 “Ch. Ch. Changes”

Well, it’s all very surreal as a much beloved feature of our lives leaves us.

A huge queue is formed and our intrepid heroes get to rubberneck in the background while adjusting to their new positions of (ostensibly) power.

2 “Meet your new neighbours”

Time to settle into the new home. And it comes with the usual collection of happy-go-lucky characters and their madcap schemes. What larks!

3 “What could go wrong?”

In which there is an Imperial ton of foreshadowing

… for which we don’t have to wait until the next episode

4 “Everything has gone wrong”

In which we hit the classic plot beat at the mid of the series arc: our protagonists, having experienced losses and setbacks have to listen and adapt to their changed circumstances, thus continuing the Heroes’ journey.

5 “Things are (not) heating up”

But obviously listening to good advice is not something our heroes can adjust to in only one episode. So the drama this week is the new trauma experienced as no-one must be informed how to help themselves, despite the government being all about the self-reliance. Nor will they have the (inflation adjusted) resources to help themselves in the event they do find out how to. Won’t anyone please, think of the children?

6 “If up were down”

In this week’s sizzling episode of WandaVision, (or is it “Secret Wars”, released as an early surprise?), we’re turning up the heat . Literally. On the whole planet.
But it’s all going to be OK, as the man from the government explained: “as we’ll get to zero by [unintelligible]”.

Clearly this is a clever misdirect and something is really being done; no doubt we’ll find out in a future episode.

The end game

WandaVision 1 was a roller coaster ride, and ended with a bitter sweet parting. This series looks to be shaping up to be even better, and I still have no idea what the big reveal is going to be!

Most of these series last only 8–10 episodes, so only 3 more weeks of this government to go.
I think I’ll miss this series when it’s no longer on…
