Actor Seth Rogen gave an impassioned and often funny opening statement before a Senate hearing on Alzheimer’s Research.

Rogen was testifying before the Senate Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, of which there are 18 members but ended up making his plea to a near-empty Capitol Hill hearing. One of the central issues Rogen argued, as several politicians left mid-speech, was the lack of knowledge surrounding the disease and the shame sufferers and their families often feel because of it.

“The situation is so dire that it caused me, a lazy, self-involved, generally self-medicated manchild to start an entire charity organization,” Rogen said in his testimony.

Rogen has been highly involved in Alzheimer’s outreach for several years, as a celebrity spokesman and fundraiser for the National Alzheimer’s Association. He and his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen, also started the non-profit Hilarity For Charity to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer’s while offering support to the families.
