We’ve all been to a wedding where someone has had too much to drink. Sometimes, they only make a fool out of themselves, and other times, it becomes everyone’s problem when they decide to start a fight. This story is the latter, where a fight turned into a shooting.

The police report reads like a script for a nighttime soap opera, with dramatic characters and scenes playing out. Carey Huls of the Indiana State Police, who was called to the scene, told reporters the case was “very convoluted from the get-go.”

Detective Steven R. Peyton wrote in an affidavit of probable cause that “all individuals appeared to be highly intoxicated with alcohol.” This might be why it’s so hard to piece together precisely what and why everything happened.

“It all started because Jonathan Goff was flirting with [the best man’s] fiancee, and Jonathan and his wife got into an argument.” This snippet is taken from Detective Peyton’s official affidavit.

At some point, Jonathan Goff, a guest at the wedding, decided to flirt with the best man’s fiancee. This angered not only the best man but also Jonathan’s wife, who was there with him. Jonathan and his wife started arguing to the point that he became “extremely aggressive,” said…
