This sadistic killer, known as “Sex Beast,” picked his victims at random to torture and kill. He had no preference of age, only that he liked them dead before he raped them.

Melvin David Rees

Early in life, his musical talent was noticed. While at the University of Maryland, Rees played the saxophone, piano, and clarinet with great skill. He eventually dropped out before graduating to focus on playing at DC jazz clubs.

The first sign that Rees wasn’t quite what he appeared to be surfaced in 1955. He tried to abduct a 36-year-old woman by forcing her into his car. She was able to escape, or most likely, she would have been his first known kill. Rees was arrested on assault charges, but the victim later refused to press charges.
