March 25, 1982

Hilda Amelia Roche 43 was a recently divorced when she met a man at a singles bar in Alexandria, Virginia.

She couldn’t wait to tell her friends all about the man who had asked her to dinner. She said he had lots of money and drove a nice car.

April 1, 1982

Police were called to a wooded area behind an elementary school. A woman’s dead body was found, she had been shot once in the back of the head. They believed she had also been sexually assaulted. But the police were unable to identify her at that time.

April 5, 1982

After not hearing from her, Hilda’s friends reported her missing. Police searched her apartment and found her wallet, with a driver’s license inside. They had a name for their missing woman found in the woods.

Investigators combed through her apartment and found evidence of a sexual assault in the bedroom. They found a blouse, pants, and hose that looked to have been torn off of Hilda.
