Why We Devour True Crime Stories

What makes us click on a story that we know will end in murder, give us a fright, or make us question those closest to us?

I’ve written about my introduction to True Crime before. Spoiler alert: It was the Kennedy Assassination.

But, I’ve often wondered what causes others to gravitate towards reading about other humans being murdered savagely. How do we find enjoyment from hearing all the gory details of lives being taken?

So I started doing some research. I went online, primarily to social media and chat websites, looking at comments and asking questions. I also stopped by ChatGPT and asked the Robots what they thought.

The weird thing was I got the same answers from everybody. The platform didn’t matter; everyone’s responses fell into the same categories. This was confirmed when I went to ChatGPT as if it could read my computer data. No, not really.
