British Actress and Journalist Mysteriously Found Dead in River Thames
A coroner concluded that there was no evidence Sarita Khajuria’s death was suicide, accident, or the result of “more sinister goings on.”
Sarita Khajuria, the daughter of Indian architect Lalit and Finnish nurse Anneli, lived in Hertfordshire, UK. At thirteen, she made her acting debut in a 1987 episode of Tandoori Nights, a British sitcom.
In 1993, Sarita starred in the British comedy-drama film Bhaji on the Beach. She later earned a master’s degree in international journalism and became a presenter on First Edition, a children’s news show.
At twenty-five, Sarita was in a major car crash and spent two months in a coma. After learning that she had a five percent chance of recovery, her family considered turning off her life support.
Sarita did wake up, but due to the brain damage she had sustained, she had to undergo extensive physical therapy to regain mobility and had to relearn to read and write. She wrote an article for The Guardian detailing her experience.
Two years after her near-death accident, she got cast as an uncredited extra in the 2002 hit movie Bend It Like Beckham.
