Mont Highley IV, the youngest of three children born to Gail and Dr. Mont Highley III, was raised in Montgomery, Alabama. A graduate of the University of Alabama, the 33-year-old worked in construction and often traveled for his job.

Dr. Highley described his son as a loving person and an avid outdoorsman:

“He would stop on the side of the road when people were picking paper up and tell them how much he appreciated them cleaning things up. He got along, pretty much, with everybody.”

The Highley family was close-knit and spent Thanksgiving 2003 at the home of one of Mont’s sisters, Leigh Ann. The next day, November 28, Mont went hunting with his father.

That evening, he said goodbye to his parents at their Montgomery home and left for the family cabin 20 miles away in Macon County. He and his father planned to meet there the next afternoon to go hunting again.

Dr. Highley arrived at the cabin around 3 PM on November 29, but Mont wasn’t there. His truck, a Chevrolet Tahoe with Florida plates, was also missing.
