On June 10, 2017, a human head was found on the front steps of a small white house in the 1500 block of Deer Park Street in Jackson, Mississippi. Police were alerted at 9:19 AM, and one of the first officers at the scene recognized the victim as his cousin, 30-year-old Jeremy Jerome Jackson.

The news spread quickly, and while Corey Jackson was at work, one of his brothers sent him a text message of the head and asked him if it looked like Jeremy. He immediately knew it was his younger brother.

Later that day, around 4 PM, Jeremy’s burnt body was found less than a mile away in a wooded residential area off Green Street.

Jeremy was one of nine siblings and lived with his brother Johnny. He had three children and was a business management student at Jackson State University. Corey recalled,

“He was just a funny person. Everybody loved him, man. He was a jokester. He loved telling stories.”
