Jodie Bordeaux’s murder is likely related to her employment at an Indian casino.

Jodie Lynn Bauer and Shawn Bordeaux met while he was attending university in Lincoln, Nebraska. The couple married in his home state of South Dakota in 1995. Shortly after, they moved into a small farmhouse on the Kickapoo Indian Reservation in Powhattan, Kansas. Though Jodie was not Indian, Shawn was part Lakota Indian.

Shawn and Jodie / Unsolved Mysteries

Both Jodie and Shawn worked at the Golden Eagle Casino, the first Indian-owned casino in the area. Jodie was eventually promoted to staff supervisor of the slot machine department and was now overseeing several employees. When there was an issue, she would send a report to the Kickapoo Tribal Council who would then make any necessary decisions such as putting an employee on probation or firing them.

Many of the staff members were resentful that Jodie held such a high position at the casino. There was one specific employee who did not want her as their superior. Jodie had to write several unfavorable reports about this person as they were often late and had a bad attitude. The council put them on probation and they were ultimately fired.
