Woman fatally stabs convicted sex offender

He tried to attack her at a Louisiana laundromat.

A convicted sex offender was stabbed to death at a Louisiana laundromat by the victim he was allegedly trying to attack, police said. (WVUE)

According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. at a laundromat near Lacombe, LA.

The man, identified as 40-year-old Nicholas Tranchant, had previously been convicted twice for sex crimes, the sheriff’s office said.

An investigation into the incident revealed that Tranchant, a convicted sex offender, had entered the laundromat armed with a sharp weapon and was attempting to assault the female when she fought back.

The female was able to gain possession of the weapon and used it to stab him before fleeing to safety.

The woman was also taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries suffered in the attack.

Tranchant was convicted in July 2003 for Indecent Behavior with Juveniles. He was convicted again in May 2008 for Attempted Aggravated Rape and Aggravated Burglary. He was released from jail on those charges on December 21, 2023, and required to register as a sex offender.
