New York City, fondly called the “Big Apple” is a great place to spend the day. Of course, for those with the time and inclination to “shop till they drop,” the city is perfect for people with expensive taste: Broadway shows, Michelin-starred eateries, and shopping.

The city is also a great place to spend the day doing interesting things without spending too much money. NYC has its charm in every season, even in sub-zero temperatures in the winter.

This past week, my friends and I went into the city to spend the day. We wanted to see the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Plaza, so we walked from Central Park to Rockefeller Plaza on Fifth Avenue, walking past the new iconic Louis Vuitton building.

I will let you in on a secret.

Once you get to Rockefeller Plaza, take the stairs or elevators to the basement level which is also the entrance to the ice skating rink. There is a whole underground world there with shops and restaurants that you can walk around. This is ideal when it’s too cold outside.
