Why Volunteering in Canada Makes Sense for Our Nomadic Life
Experiencing different parts of Canada up close and personal
When we sold all of our possessions in 2017, heading out into the world to travel full-time, we never thought we would be coming back to Canada for long stints of time. But after being away for 95% of the time between 2017 and 2023, we realized that coming back to check in on family more frequently was essential. Plus, we realized that if we stayed for six months each year, we would be able to keep our health care status in check.
But how does one come back to Canada without finding themselves in a static position again? The last thing we want to do is to have to rent an apartment, set up some sort of home base and get ‘settled’.
In 2023, we came back for the first time since COVID. Thankfully, a bunch of opportunities popped up that had us moving around and visiting friends and family throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. We found a couple of jobs that provided accommodation for us, plus we did some house-sitting for long periods of time.
