Why We’re Building ascribe

It all starts with creators. The people at the fringes who define the fringes. The ones who put words to the Zeitgeist swimming around all of us. The dreamers who create visual arts and objects that delight the sense and our spirit. The visionaries who compose musical soundscapes that take us to another place in our own heads.

Society has always found ways to reward those who create. Many models have been imperfect but they all strove to achieve one thing — to encourage the arts. To expand our imagination with beauty and knowledge. To heighten our awareness. To bring hope and joy.

Amanda Palmer spoke about this in her TED Talk:

“ ‘The music business is tanking and you encourage piracy. How did you make all these people pay for music?’

I didn’t make them. I asked them. And through the very act of asking people, I’d connected with them, and when you connect with them, people want to help you. It’s kind of counterintuitive for a lot of artists. They don’t want to ask for things. But it’s not easy. It’s not easy to ask. And a lot of artists have a problem with this. Asking makes you vulnerable.”

We believe that creators should be rewarded fairly. Everyone wants to support creators. When given the choice between being a pirate or a consumer, people will choose to support and buy authentic creation. People want to show their appreciation.
