Wow.

BIG news just broke in the basketball recruiting world.

5-star power forward Reggie Perry has committed to Mississippi State.

Ben Howland just landed one of the most elite basketball prospects in all of the country. The 5-star recently decommitted from Arkansas and rumors circulated that he had been on campus in Starkville shortly before that announcement.

Perry is ranked as the 15th best player in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite. He is also listed as the fourth best small forward, although he can play either forward spot.

The 6-foot-9, 200 pound 5-star prospect has connections to Mississippi State. Huge connections that may have helped persuade him to Starkville. Here is what I wrote during my time at Maroon and White Nation:

Why would he consider Mississippi State?

Well, the Perry family has big connections to Bulldogs basketball. Perry’s father, Al Perry, starred at Mississippi State from 1974–1978. The older Perry led the Southeastern Conference in assists over the course of both the ’75 and ’76 seasons. Al Perry’s 510 assists ranks third in MSU history, behind only Derrick Zimmerman’s 514 and Dee Bost’s 633.

In addition to Mississippi State and Arkansas, Perry was strongly considering Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Iowa State, and Miami. Kentucky was also interested in the Mississippi State legacy.

Ben Howland has done it again ladies and gentlemen.
