Mississippi State adds its 16th commitment to the 2018 class, as Arkansas DB LaDarrius Bishop committed to Dan Mullen on Saturday.

3-star Ashdown, Arkansas, defensive back LaDarrius Bishop has pledged to the Maroon and White over offers from home-state Arkansas, Baylor, and Oklahoma State.

In the past week, the Bulldogs have now added four commits to a formidable 2018 recruiting class. Last Friday, defensive backs Tyrese Ross and Shawn Preston both announced their pledge to the Maroon and White. The Bulldogs then added Mr. Alabama La’Damian Webb on Wednesday morning (you’re going to want to watch Webb’s hudl).

Quite the impressive group added to a class that already includes four-star signal caller Jalen Mayden and two Under Armour All-Americans in wide receiver Malik Heath and offensive lineman Kwatrivous Johnson. Oh, and the state’s best player — Marcus Murphy out of West Point.

With the latest additions of Ross, Preston, and now Bishop, Mississippi State looks to be going after big and physical defensive backs to play in Todd Grantham’s system. Grantham, who has had success at both Georgia and Louisville, is known for his high-flying and aggressive style of play.

LaDarrius Bishop brings elite size to a secondary looking to make a huge jump under Grantham. His 6'0" height will allow him to battle with the bigger wideouts across the Southeastern Conference. His lengthy frame will fill out once he hits an SEC weight room. As Scout’s Gabe Brooks notes, Bishop possesses great closing speed, too:

LaDarrius Bishop is a P5-caliber prospect who affects the game in all three phases as a receiver, defensive back, and return man. Bishop flashes good acceleration, which serves him well as a pass-catcher and kick returner, while his closing speed on the defensive side of the ball is impressive. Bishop’s best fit in college may be in the secondary, so tackling technique/consistency will be one area to improve if he moves to defense full-time. Bishop has a good, long frame that can hold more weight while allowing him to retain his athleticism.

Overall, Mississippi State is getting a defensive back that has the potential and skills to develop into a solid defender in the SEC. Check out Bishop’s hudl film here:

Welcome to the family, LaDarrius!
