While most of the fan base is focused on fall camp and the return of Bulldogs football, some basketball news broke earlier Monday morning.

College basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported that Mississippi State and Dayton have agreed to a home-and-home series that will begin this upcoming season. While the dates have not been released, Rothstein reports that the series will begin in Starkville and then head back to Dayton for the 2018–19 basketball season.

Mississippi State is entering year-three of the Ben Howland-era. Howland previously led Northern Arizona, Pittsburgh, and UCLA to the Big Dance in his third season on the job. The successful coach returns just about everyone on the roster, except for the graduated I.J. Ready and transfer Mario Kegler, and he brings in 5-star guard Nick Weatherspoon. The Bulldogs are coming off of a 16–16 season.

Dayton, on the other hand, heads into the 2017–18 basketball season with a little bit of unfamiliarity. Archie Miller left the Flyers to take on the Indiana job after the Hoosiers parted ways with Tom Crean.

The Flyers hired former VCU and Alabama head coach Anthony Grant back in March. Grant was previously on staff with Billy Donovan at both Florida and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Mississippi State will also have a home-and-home series with Cincinnati, which also begins this season. The first game will be played at Northern Kentucky University.
