When I first started blogging about product management with my colleague Briana Lauren almost three and a half years ago, it started as an outlet for our everyday frustrations on the job. We named our blog Everyone is a Product Expert, not just because we believed that we could teach anyone how to succeed in our roles, but also as a tongue-in-cheek jab at those who acted like “backseat drivers” to product managers and designers. At that time, I think we both felt as though we didn’t have a proper channel to convey the knowledge we wanted to share with the world. I also personally decided that creating a track-record of thought leadership in product management would look good on my resume. Perhaps it will.

In a bundle of enthusiasm, we jointly launched our product blog. At first, the topics I covered came easy; I had a seemingly endless list of experiences to draw from. At one point, all of these topics seemed to scream “write a book” at me. But I decided that before I tried assembling 60,000 words, I’d see if I could handle 600. So I wrote about everything from communication skills to relationship building. My posts varied — and continue to vary — in terms of tone, quality, and length.
