everyday repeating

same fears
same pain
the morning dew
the evening rain

every thought is scattered
every feeling subdued

until they take you over
until they remind you of ruin

can you forgive yourself again?

i thought we were past this

the stupid mind games
the self loathing
the reflection of a man i told to go away

i hate to break it to you,
but you’re not welcomed here

instead you brought all your baggage home and forgot to unpack
so it’s just on the floor in the middle of the room
like a broken scab

rip it off and clean the wound
it’ll only hurt for a moment
evanescent pain exchanged for eternal solace

but you’re too headstrong
you can handle this
and you’ll handle it until it handles you

like a puppet on a string
dancing to the same old song

1, 2, 3,
why can’t you see?
4, 5, 6,
aren’t we done with this?

wouldn’t you like to know.
