A California Conservative Talks Truth

This week on the Truth Squad Truth Cast, I filled in as host and talked with Christi Cameron, a self-identified “California conservative” and a journalism student.

We discussed ideological diversity in the newsroom and how speaking out can be hard but could potentially eventually make mainstream media more well-rounded politically.

“People think that they can engage differently than they did in the past, and it’s true, there are mechanisms to engage differently, but that doesn’t mean as humans we need to speak differently to each other or we need to like approach [political dialogue] differently,” she said.

Our generation of journalists face a unique choice, as some may see our choices of publications to work for as a political statement. I asked Cameron if that factors into her job decisions after graduation.
