Creating my first Blankos!
By Rictoken
Hello everyone and welcome back! Today I would like to share the creation of my first Blanko.
For the uninitiated, Blankos (https://blankos.com/) is a new video game (MMO, massively multiplayer online) created by Mythical Games (https://mythical.games/).
The feature that is making me passionate about this game, and the reason why I heard about it, is the fact that it will be possible to collect some special rare blankos, that have been personalized by all the artists who want to try themselves. These blankos will be unique and collectables in the form of non- fungible tokens on the EOS blockchain.
“We are using the technology (blockchain) to allow us to create truly collectable, unique characters and assets that are probably so. This is huge as it allows us to work with artists, designers and even notable creators to make one-off Blankos characters. This makes things very desirable and very collectible.”

Translated, it will be possible to be in possession of unique digital pieces that can be collected, not copied, with value and certificate of ownership, EOS blockchain approved! Being a blockchain enthusiast and contemporaneously a humble 3d artist, I would say that Blankos definitely caught my eye.
And so the process of making my first blanko started!
His name is Gundam … uh, I wanted to say Gundman 🙂
Having always been a fan of the legendary Japanese robots, it seemed like a good idea to pay homage to the dear old Gundam by creating a themed blanko. I just slightly changed the name in case you couldn’t use it for copyright issues.
And here he is in all his glory! Hope you like it:
Here are some steps of realization and software used:
STEP#1
Box modeling: fortunately the blankos have a simple basic geometry and so I managed with a classical modeling technique starting from simple extrusions.
Software: Cinema 4D
Applying a Subdivision Surface tool, I got my final model:
STEP#2
UV unwrapping: preparation phase of the 3d model to “map” all the surfaces that compose it on a two-dimensional plane that will then accept the texture
Software: Rizom UV
STEP#3
3D painting: this was definitely the most fun and creative phase. Drawing directly on the 3D model, I created the “Gundam style” texture
Software: Cinema 4D
this is the texture laid out on the UV map:
STEP#4
Rigging: phase of creation of the “skeleton” of the 3D model to allow the posing
Software: Cinema 4D
STEP#5
Shading, lighting, rendering: material creation phase, lighting setup (1 dome light + 3 point lighting), rendering
Software: Redshift Renderer (inside Cinema 4D)
STEP#6
Layout for presentation: adding background with Blankos logos, adding texts
Software: Photoshop
STEP#7
Social spreading: it makes no sense to create something and then keep it in the drawer, so: Twitter here we come! I shared the result by tagging @PlayBlankos and @playmythical friends and the response was really gratifying … even the CEO of Mythical Games and many other team members appreciated. Thanks so much everyone for the support! Very much appreciated indeed!

In conclusion it was a really fun and rewarding two days job!
Now that I have the ready 3d model, I just have to create new Blankos!:)
Stay Tuned guys!
Go Eos and go Blankos!
