We are going live, folks

Greetings, web travellers

This is Alessandro Sanino, your friendly CTO at tryvium.io, and today I am going to announce something big!

From the 5th of July 2021 (15:00 GMT+2), the Tryvium Travels Booking Platform goes live with the first official public beta version.

While all the team is proud of the achievement, we would like to share with you some key points of our journey.

Sorry, but what is Tryvium?

We understand we have been off-radar for a while, but let us help remembering our project.

Tryvium Travels is a project which aims to rewrite all tourism industry standards, democratize access to tourism and provide new products to achieve the best outcomes possible. We identified in 3 products our starting offer:

  • A Booking Platform, allowing people to reserve hotel rooms at affordable prices, while paying with traditional payment methods or cryptocurrencies
  • A Gift Experience Platform, allowing people to buy, gift and sell gift box travel experiences, with the additional feature of an exchange secondary market powered by multi-blockchain technology
  • The All-in-One software, which is a complete set of tools for hotel managers to keep everything in order in their properties (with a focus on small hotels and hotel chains)

All of this will be powered by the Tryvium Token (TRYV), which will have different tokenomics roles depending on the reference product.

Working during the COVID19 pandemic

COVID19 changed our lives, it would just be stupid to say otherwise. Companies shifted from office work to remote work, and now their employees hope not to come back.

Here at Tryvium Travels, we were a remote-first company from the beginning. Our team is fully distributed around the globe, from Italy to Slovenia and Spain and more.

Being fully remote gave us a lot of advantages:

  • Flexible contracts for all our employees
  • No 8-hour policy, in favor of a result oriented approach
  • No more deploys on friday (yeah, that’s right)

These allowed us to sprint more than ever and be awesome

Our technology, the state-of-art

We would like to share with fellow developers among you our state-of-art technological stack, so you can give us your opinion about it.

Here what has been done so far.

The Zero Penny Architecture

The project base has been the Zero Penny Architecture, a concept I created some time ago and which gained a lot of traction among developers.
For the live production infrastructure, we moved to the AWS Cloud and MongoDB Atlas, in particular using Docker containers and Gitlab pipelines.

The Booking Platform Beta

The Platform itself is powered by Cloudflare and Netlify for the frontend, Golang, Docker images (built with Kaniko and pushed to gitlab registries then deployed) and AWS Elastic Container Service. We have choosen MongoDB Atlas as Database for our Platform Architecture.

We have multiple environments, following the Zero Penny Architecture principles.

The platform supports fiat and crypto payments, using Stripe and Crypto.com (thanks to them we support over 20 crypto currencies, including BTC, ETH, LTC, XRP, and many more)

Tryvium for Open Source

Tryvium Travels has been advocating for open source code from the beginning of its constitution in 2018. So far we have released 2 notable projects (not including the private repositories we used to gather feedback from other pre-beta versions of the platform):

  • Docker Netlify CLI is a dockerized version of the Netlify CLI, we created it from scratch and made it open (also on dockerhub as public image).
We use this image to deploy the frontend of the booking platform.
  • Golang Cache Adapters is a collection of adapters for golang to access different types of cache: at the moment we support Redis, in-memory cache, and MongoDB cache. We are getting more and more help from the dev community to write more adapters.
The library also offers a MultiCacheAdapter object to access multiple caches with a fallback mechanism, check the repository for more details.

All the repositories are available on github under the following organization

Be sure to join us and be part of our open source community.

Conclusions and Next Steps

This release has been a major milestone in our roadmap, but we have much more in our future ahead:

  • We are adding more hotels to the platform
  • We are adding new means of payments, new cryptocurrencies, new payment providers, and much more
  • We are tuning the performance, for a seamless User Experience
  • We are adding more and more open source and free code repositories (if the world gives you, you must give back to the world)
  • We are going forward to implement the Gift Experience Concept and Smart Contracts
