In August, the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale (Tsai CITY) reached a milestone: the completion of construction on our new home, a 12,500-square-foot space on Becton Plaza. After spending the past three years launching and scaling Tsai CITY from a temporary location, we’re thrilled to officially join Yale’s campus landscape.

Of course, our move to the new building hasn’t gone quite how we expected: due to COVID-19, we’ll continue to offer all of our programs and resources virtually, rather than in our physical space, throughout the fall. Over the course of this semester, our team will be getting to know the building, preparing to welcome students once possible. While we can’t open our doors just yet, we invite you to start imagining how you’ll fill the space with new ideas. Here’s a look at our community’s new home.

We’re located along Yale’s burgeoning innovation corridor, between Prospect Street and Hillhouse Avenue.

This puts us in a central location that’s easy to access from many corners of campus, whether you’re coming to Tsai CITY after a productive day in Yale’s art and architecture studios or straight from a morning of experimentation in a Science Hill lab. We’re also happy to be next door to the Yale Center for Engineering Innovation and Design (CEID), one of our close partners and the site of an active makerspace.

When you get there, we’ll be the glass building with a stylish yellow curtain.

The building has been designed as a gathering point for Yale innovators, entrepreneurs, creators, and leaders from all backgrounds and disciplines. Whether you have an existing idea or just want to explore the skills and mindsets of innovative thinking, we’ll be here to help.

Inside, you’ll find an array of spaces for bringing ideas to life.

The building’s spaces range from a large studio to smaller meeting rooms and quiet corners for focused work. Once we’re able to safely open, these sites will host talks, workshops, cohort program sessions, project team meetings, office hours, and much more. In the meantime, we’ll be getting the building ready for your arrival — we can’t wait to see what you dream up here.

This fall, we’re offering programs, mentoring, and funding virtually. Learn more about Tsai CITY here.

We are grateful to Joe Tsai (Yale B.A. ’86, J.D. ’90) for his commitment to Yale, which made Tsai CITY and its new home possible. Read more about the vision that launched Tsai CITY here.
