Response to Kristel Foster’s “insult to student activists”

TUSD board member Kristel Foster had a message for me on Facebook.

Don’t you just love it when white women tell the brown folks how to protest the very racism that is perpetuated by politicians such as Kristel Foster once they are finally in positions of power in TUSD, in this case:

  • Lacking the courage to bring back Mexican American Studies
  • Continuing to fight the Latino and Black Plaintiffs on the Desegregation Order.

First of all, my Facebook page is open to all because I’m not a fan of censorship like the current board majority is. I cannot see any of Adelita, Cam or Kristel’s posts because they are really into the censorship thing.

Now to answer what Kristel mentions: On my wall I did say “with UNIDOS and Mecha nowhere to be seen…” because that is a fact.

I would just love for Kristel to tell me the last time they spoke as an organization at a TUSD board meeting.

I think they have not spoken at all during this current board majority that began in January of 2013, making what I said a true statement; sorry the truth is offensive to Kristel Foster.

Now as to “checking out who is wearing these shirts” that I had printed out (which you can see in the screen capture to the right), one of those people are my good Yaqui brother and seventh-generation Tucsonan Patrick Valencia McKenna.

Another was my Navajo partner Christie Humphries who is also finishing her Ph.D. at the UA, thus making her a student activist who once got arrested protesting outside of Tom Horne’s office, along with camping outside Arpaio’s jails in the middle of the July heat in protest of the Sheriff who was just found guilty of racial profiling.

YOU are the insult to student activism, Kristel!

I would love for you to meet with us three and tell us how wrong we are, or for you to just answer very simple questions as an elected official; we all live in TUSD.

But you all are cowards and either block free speech on Facebook or flat-out shut it down at the call to the audience. You are all also afraid of Valerie Cavasos at KGUN9.

What do you have to hide?

You know what also makes you the insult to our history Ms. Foster?

The picture that you proudly posted on your Facebook featuring two people that UNIDOS, MEChA and all the MAS activists know very well.

A highly-regarded activist in Tucson, Isabel Garcia, along with many other Latino activists would have a message for you regarding your embrace of the MAS-banner… the video is below in case you have forgotten the history of the Mexican-American community in Tucson, which may be because you have refused to unban the MAS history classes.
