Best AirBnB’s in Africa: Lagos
Up next in our “Best of AirBnB’s in Africa” series is Lagos, Nigeria. Decidedly one of the most expensive places for accommodations on the continent — the big price tag doesn’t always mean a high quality stay. Here are our picks for one of Africa’s biggest metropolises:
For Solo Travelers or Friends That Want to Share
A Minimalist Gem // $88 per night
We’re biased — Ebi’s placed is hands down our favorite Lagos AirBnB. It’s everything it’s supposed to be, nicely done, centrally located, and an awesome awesome host. Right on the Lekki/Victoria Island border you’re not going to be able to get a place this nice in such a great location at this price in Lagos.
The pros: Awesome Host, Easy UBER transport, wonderfully decorated
The cons: None at all.
Your Victoria Island HQ // $71 per night
Victoria Island is Lagos’s social and business hub. It is also the place where even a basic 3 star hotel can run you $300/night. Stanley’s place is an exception, simply decorated with access to a pool he’s a friendly host who loves to make visitors feel welcome in his city.
The pros: Host is excellent, right in Victoria Island
The cons: we can’t find any
Sarah’s Lekki Hideout // $68 per night
The home of “new money” and Lagos’s growing middle class, Lekki is within a 10–15 minute drive of Victoria Island and Ikoyi — a bridge built just a few years back made this connection even easier. Sarah’s place is an sun-drenched bungalow that even has a backup for it’s backup generator which is a really big plus in this city. Cozy and thoughtfully appointed it is a perfect place for people who need to be in the mix.
The pros: UBER always near, Consistent Power, Free WiFi
The cons: At rush hour (which is almost all day), getting from Lekki to other parts of the island can be time consuming.
Rooftop and Chill in Lekki // $70 per night
Dor’s place in Lekki is artfully decorated with African fabrics and tons of great books that are available for you to use while you’re there. Not far from the beach or the main highways it’s centrally located and always an UBER away from anywhere you need to go. The outdoor terrace is hands down the dopest thing about the house, it’s perfect for relaxing and people watching.
The pros: UBER, central location
The cons: No newfound homies welcome
Couples, Small Groups (up to 4 guests)
High Class in Lekki // $200 per night
Perfect for a place to rest or even entertaining, Joce’s home in Lekki Phase 1 (the first of the Lekki residential developments) is centrally located and abundant in space. The pool is currently under renovation but when it’s ready — this please will really be on 10!
The pros: Lots of space, centrally located
The cons: none
A Lagos Escape // $70 per night
If you plan on going back and forth to Victoria Island every day this is NOT the place for you. However, if you’re in Nigeria for a while and want a bit of a getaway — this artsy villa is the place for you. It’s also a kick-ass events space provided you’ll be shuttling people out to Badore.
Pros: Spacious, soothing environment
Cons: Far from most of life in Las Gidi
You can ask almost any person in Lagos to take you to “One Thousand And Four” and they will all know exactly where you are going. The condo complex is home to many of Lagos’s entrepreneurs, creatives, and young professionals and this flat gives you access to all the amenities of the building — including the jacuzzi/pool combo.
Pros: Central locations, poolside vibes
