Starring the 10th Doctor (aka David Tennant) and Amazing Amy (aka Rosamund Pike), this delightful British comedy is perfect summer viewing. Tennant and Pike star as a struggling married couple whose kids cause trouble on a family trip.

Before she was Katniss Everdeen, Jennifer Lawrence was the tenacious Ree in this gritty drama set in the Ozarks. She’s impossible to look away from, full of fire and the desire to keep her family safe from the dangers that surround them.
We know that the IMDb rating is a little low, but we imagine that the premise (a violent feminist response to a brutal attack) is what has turned off some viewers. But if you like your horror darkly funny and with a social bent, Teeth may be just the film for you.
Most people know late director Jonathan Demme for his work on dramas like The Silence of the Lambs and Rachel Getting Married, but he also made his mark in the world of music-driven films. This documentary about The Talking Heads was his first foray into that world, and it draws you in just as much as his narrative films do.
Based on a novel by John Le Carré, this thoughtful thriller was the last starring role for Philip Seymour Hoffman. An immigrant in the Muslim community in Hamburg catches the eye of both German and US intelligence, but it’s unclear whether he is the victim of torture or if he is a terrorist with violence in mind. A Most Wanted Man also stars Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright, and Willem Dafoe.
Jean-Luc Godard directs this cinephile favorite starring Brigitte Bardot, Michel Piccoli, and Jack Palance. Contempt is a meta-commentary on filmmaking and Godard’s own experience, but it engages the heart as much as the mind.
The Thomas Crown Affair (1999)
This sexy thriller is a pure pleasure with zero guilt. Pierce Brosnan stars as the titular billionaire who amuses himself (and the audience) by stealing a Monet. Rene Russo is the investigator who is tasked with finding the painting. Together, they make for an on-screen couple that is full of chemistry.
With films like The Guest and this cult horror favorite, Adam Wingard is one of the most interesting directors working today. You’re Next is a home invasion movie with plenty of surprises and genuine scares, but it never skimps on the style. We’re also fans of its unlikely heroine, played by Sharni Vinson.
Before the McConaissance, Frailty was the movie that showed us what Matthew McConaughey was capable of. This twisty thriller marked the directorial debut for Bill Paxton (who also starred), and it is an indication of his talent behind the camera and what else he might have done if he were given more time.
