There’s so much joy in this Shakespearean adaptation directed by star Kenneth Branagh, but it reaches its peak in this climax that finally brings bickering foes Benedick (Branagh) and Beatrice (Emma Thompson) together. Branagh and Thompson were married during shooting, and they really go for it.
Then off-screen married couple Jude Law and Sienna Miller heat things up in this scene where the titular Lothario is trying to change his ways. Alfie isn’t a traditional romance, but it’s hard not to root for the character to find love.
This sweet, intimate film has always slayed us, but after the death of Anton Yelchin, it absolutely breaks our heart. Pick any kissing scene in the long-distance romance between Yelchin’s Jacob and Felicity Jones’ Anna, and we’re a puddle on the floor.
Though the 1996 Baz Luhrmann version is more familiar to today’s audiences, this Oscar winner is a classic. Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting are wonderful as the star-crossed lovers, with their first kiss cementing their place in cinema history.
We’re a sucker for the courtship of Minnie Driver’s Grace and David Duchovny’s Bob in this delightfully old-school rom-com. Grace and Bob’s first kiss comes post-slap (whoops), which makes it all the sweeter.
Are you more excited by the perfect execution of the Pamchenko twist or Kate’s confession to Doug that she loves him? Either way, the fiery chemistry between Moira Kelly and D.B. Sweeney melts us every time.
Some might be surprised by how sweet this S&M romance is, but the connection between James Spader as the original Mr. Grey (eat your heart out, Fifty Shades of Grey) and Maggie Gyllenhaal as Lee is so much more than just sexual. This late scene shows Lee’s joy at their unconventional relationship.
John Hannah is extremely underrated as a romantic lead, and he’s full-on adorable in this scene with his request, “Permission to engage the enemy, sir.” Sliding Doors does a great job of adding a new premise to the traditional romance, but it never shortchanges true emotion at the expense of its ambition.
