This Coen Brothers remake of the classic John Wayne Western stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Hailee Steinfeld, and Josh Brolin. Somehow, it didn’t win any of the 10 Oscars it was nominated for, which echoes its themes of injustice.
Ghosts haunt a beautiful home in this thriller starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer. Robert Zemeckis (Flight, Back to the Future) directs from a script by Clark Gregg, who you may know as Marvel’s Agent Colson.
Underrated director Kasi Lemmons (Talk to Me) made her debut with this eerie drama starring Samuel L. Jackson, Lynn Whitfield, and a pre-Underground Jurnee Smollett.

The Lovers On The Bridge (1991)
This French drama from Leos Carax (Holy Motors) is achingly romantic, and not just because of its Paris setting. Juliette Binoche and Denis Lavant play two homeless people who fall in love on the City of Light’s Pont Neuf.
Tim Robbins, Rachel McAdams, and Michael Peña star as U.S. soldiers home from the war who take a road trip together in this insightful comedic drama.
Can you quote this hot mess of a film starring Elizabeth Berkley as a stripper? If not, you haven’t seen the campy cult classic enough.
Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr. (1999)
Errol Morris is rightly considered one of America’s best documentarians, with films like The Fog of War and The Thin Blue Line on his resume. The complicated man at the center of Mr. Death ranks with the most fascinating subjects in his career.
This post-apocalyptic classic paved the way for the rest of the franchise, as well as a host of inferior imitators. Mel Gibson takes on the title role in George Miller’s engine-revving film. (Leaves July 2)
