We all face a dilemma: listen to or not listen to other opinions and be paralyzed by them?

Probably you have a lot of plans and dreams but like the most of the people in the world, you face a dilemma: listen to or not listen to other opinions and be paralyzed by them.

I have the alternative of not writing a word in English and not to be judged. On the other hand, I may write a whole text, make a lot of mistakes, be judged and learn something from being criticized.

That’s life. We made mistakes. We can take new conclusions from them. Or not?

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes

Alexander Fleming was not trying to create Penicillin when he did it. Actually, his plans were to cure diseases with a “wonder medicine”. Like all scientists, Fleming was a little disorganized. Apparently, he used a Petri dish with mold and then discover that it was dissolving the bacteria around it. There it was: he found out Penicillin.

A lot of “mistakes” led to great discoveries. Why should you/we get paralyzed because of what other people say about right and wrong?

Learn to deal with jerks

On the internet, people love to express themselves.

Most of the time, they act like they were smart people that know what they are talking about. The real thing is most of them are jerks.

When someone leaves a comment or a critic, he or she tells more about him than about the person judged. Arrogance, ignorance, excessive expectations… Those are what people like that are showing off.

Do something you never did once a day

I am living in a big city now. São Paulo is a giant place, with a lot of great places to go, a lot of nice people to meet. It is intimidating too. It is not easy to go out and face long distances, cold, fear of being robbed, so people used to avoid to experience new things.

On my first week here, for example, I was afraid to leave the building and know the neighborhood. I asked for an Uber every time I wanted to go out. When I realized how much money I was spending, I decided to start walk around and find out the place.

There was no reason to fear. I am still alive as you can see.

Give thanks every time someone criticizes you

When we receive a review — especially a bad one — we tend to react like angry dogs. We don’t like to hear that we are wrong or that people disagree with our opinions. But the right way to deal with it is to stop a little moment, breath, think about the given opinion, check if there is some piece of truth and, then, answer. But never, ever forget to say thank you.

We need to face the fact we all live in a world with a lot of points of view. We have our own desires and goals and should go ahead to concretize them.

Don’t be afraid. What challenges did you face today?

May I ask something?

Found a mistake? Show me. Liked it? Claps, claps and claps!

Last one: don’t be a jerk.
