Our fourth meeting is on the books! We had a new format of presentations tonight with our Lightning Talk series.

This new series, which will take place once every six months, has two purposes — First, it gives new speakers a chance to present without having to commit to a full keynote. Additionally, it provides the group with a diverse set of topics presented within a single meetup!

Hayden presenting about keyboard accessibility.

We also announced, for the first time, an organizer meeting. It will be at 36°N on Tuesday, October 24th. In this meeting, we’ll work together to schedule future meetings and help determine the future goals of the group!

Lightning Talks

“Keyboard Shortcuts and Access Keys: Best practices for increasing accessibility and assisting power users.” by Hayden Marx

Hayden spoke about best practices when implementing keyboard shortcuts and access keys. He gave specific examples of both great and poor UX accessibility across the web.

Jake presenting about Formstack’s design system.

A Case for Design Systems” by Jake Brokaw

Jake is a web designer and front-end developer at Formstack. He gave an overview of how the Brand Design team at Formstack created and implemented their design system. This included using atomic design and the challenges of developing design system documentation.

Thanks to everyone who attended! We want to also thank our sponsors: TEKsystems for the catering and 36°N for the venue space. Be sure to check out Techlahoma’s 2017 fundraising campaign.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 14th. You can RSVP for the meeting here.
