Tall like a Lighthouse
A lighthouse indirectly teaches us how to live life.
I have been always fascinated by lighthouses from my childhood. Even though I never visited one, I always admired their architectural beauty. Never got a chance to reach them but I enjoyed staring at them from probably few miles away. Obviously, a glowing lighthouse in a sunset near seashore is always an eye-candy but it is not the reason why they fascinate me. It’s their solitude which fascinates me. Solitude of decades to achieve the impossible.
It does not matter how vicious the storm is or how scorching the weather is, a lighthouse always holds its ground to achieve one sole purpose; To shine like the Sun in night. It dedicates its whole life to give hope to sailors in the night of bewilderedness. During daytime the Sun shows the path to ships but during nights a lighthouse craves to illuminate like the Sun to show the correct path. Its existence is defined by that impossible purpose for decades or even centuries and yet it never gives up. People easily disregard it, after all a lighthouse is just a crazy lamp revolving around itself. But it never pays attention to it. It knows its purpose, it just focuses on it.
The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do — Steve Jobs
An impossible purpose gives meaning to our life. No matter how brutal storm of negativity surrounds us we should never give up. Because there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, a light of hope. We should stand tall like a lighthouse and never give up. Who knows how bright we can illuminate?
