In a shock result, Apple-workers’ rights were put in the spotlight after two shareholder proposals were approved at Apple’s AGM last Friday. One proposal directed Apple to get a third-party civil-rights audit on the business. Shareholders also voted in favour for the tech giant to create a public report about how the company uses concealment clauses in employment contracts with respect to harassment and discrimination. Core, what a rollercoaster.

Amazon investors primed for battle over tax records.

Amazon’s being pushed to be more transparent on its tax disclosures by a group of shareholders. They want the e-commerce heavyweight to pull its weight on adopting new standards of reporting its tax records, and a letter proposing this for a vote at the AGM is currently en route to the SEC (US Securities and Exchange Commission). Worth a check out.

Chevron’s Chair under fire over climate failings.

An activist shareholder group is pushing to oust Chevron’s chairman and another board member because of the company’s failure to cut carbon emissions. The group argues that, despite shareholders calling for substantial reductions in emissions last year, Chevron still plans to cut only 5% of its emissions from its energy products.
