Getting started: an introduction to Tumelo’s platform
Welcome to Tumelo!
We’re so pleased you made it here. So let’s get started and show you around. ➡️
There are two main features on Tumelo’s platform.
1️⃣ Transparency (seeing what companies your money is invested in)
- We believe that because your money is invested you should at least know where it’s being invested.
2️⃣ Voting
- With just a click, vote on AGM proposals of companies you’re invested in. Have your say on the defining issues of our time.
We’re going to show you around each of the pages on the platform — what they’re for and what you can do with them.
We’ve used fake data in the screenshots throughout this article. That means none of the fund or account names, or companies within them are accurate. They are fictional and designed to illustrate what you would see on the Tumelo platform.
Account
The Account section of the platform is where you can explore your pension or investment account, find out how it’s structured and exactly what it’s invested in.
In ‘Account’ you’ll find:
- Companies
- Account breakdown
- Industry grouping
Companies
Use this area of the platform to explore the companies you’re invested in through your pension or investment account. These companies are equity-based only (so won’t include any companies you’re invested in through bonds etc.).
You’ll be able to:
- see how many companies you’re invested in
- filter and search the list of companies to find what interests you most
If you’re not familiar with a company you’re invested in through your account, click on it to find out more. You can:
- Read the company bio
- Find out where their headquarter is located
- Explore the company website
- See the date of their upcoming AGM
- See any open votes or vote results available at that company
Some users might notice percentages next to each company. These percentages tell you how much of your account is invested in that company.
Don’t worry if you can’t see the percentages just yet. We’re working with our partners to roll out functionality to everyone.
Industry grouping
If you can see percentages next to every company you will also be able to see another view of the companies you’re invested in — the Industry grouping view.
This allows you to see the top 10 companies (weighted by the amount you have invested in them) per industry like Energy or Technology.
Account breakdown
Use this area of the platform to:
- Explore exactly how your account is structured and what assets it’s invested in
- Confirm the name of your account by looking at the nest egg icon
- See what equities each asset is invested in by clicking ‘See companies’
You may also be able to toggle between the table view and a pie-chart view.
Unfortunately, the pie-chart view isn’t available to all our users just yet. We are working to roll this out.
Now that you know where your money is invested, it’s time to start acting on it. Because if you’ve got an investment or a pension, you’ve got an opinion. That’s our mantra.
Voting
On the voting section of the platform we show you what questions shareholders are asking global businesses. Then, you can submit your vote preference on issues that affect how those businesses are run.
Watch the video for an introduction to Tumelo or find out more in How voting works.
In ‘Voting’ you’ll find:
- Open votes
- My votes
- Vote results
Open votes
This area of the platform is where a lot of the action is. It shows you what votes are available for you to engage with. This is because your money is invested in that specific company.
It’s easy, just scroll down the list or use the filters to find what matters most. Deep dive into the issue by clicking to vote.
Don’t miss out by keeping an eye on the last chance to vote section. These votes have less than five days left before voting closes!
When you click to vote, read about the issue from both sides and decide whether you’d like to vote In favour or Against the issue at hand.
After placing your vote preference, take a moment to tell us, and your fund manager, why you voted the way you did.
My votes
This part of the platform is unique to your own voting activity. It shows you a few stats about the votes you’ve engaged with:
- The number of times you’ve voted through Tumelo (and the total number of votes cast across the whole platform!)
- The vote category you support most often (and how that compares to what most people vote on)
- Votes you’ve engaged with that are still open — your fellow users will be submitting their votes on these
- Votes you’ve engaged with that are waiting for the results to come in — the AGM might still be a few weeks away or we might be pulling the final voting data into our system
- Votes you’ve engaged with that now have results available — click on them to see how your fund manager and others voted at the AGM
Vote results
Check out this part of the platform to explore all the vote results for issues at companies you’re invested in through your pension or investment account.
Click on a vote to find out what happened at an AGM and who voted. Sometimes your fund manager will have left a comment explaining why they voted the way they did on a specific issue.
Home
Your homepage is your base. Your starting point. It provides:
- an overview of the companies you’re invested in through your pension or investment
- a ‘last chance’ vote with just a few days left for you to cast your vote
- a few statistics about your voting habits
- a link to your pension/investment provider so you can see how much your money is worth
Discover
Clicking on ‘Discover’ takes you beyond the platform and to our store of shareholder stories. Read about:
- The latest shareholder news
- How votes cast on the platform have had an effect in the real world
- The latest Tumelo product updates
- And be part of the Tumelo community by commenting and sharing your opinions too
