Tunapanda Institute, a non-profit social enterprise that runs 3-month intensive training in technology, design, business and communication in extreme low-income environments of East Africa such as Kibera (Nairobi informal settlement) is on a mission to create an environment for lifelong learning, earning, and problem-solving, hence creating sustainable solutions for improved livelihood and self-expression.

Tunapanda Institute has collaborated with Wikonnect to bridge the digital divide through the provision of digital literacy skills. Users on Wikonnect platform are capable of learning new skills, creating content to teach others, and contribute to building the platform as designers or software developers.

Wikonnect aims to enhance digital literacy skills and provide tools for creating and sharing online content.

Recently, Tunapanda Institute and Wikonnect managed to conduct a virtual software hackathon workshop. The aim of the workshop was to create an environment where web and content developers could code from home or even in their offices amid the coronavirus crisis. Hence, a laptop and stable internet connection equates to a happy coding.
